&

OTHER ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

These club safety rules are designed to keep you safe and allow you to enjoy your flying at our field. Please take some time to read and understand these rules before flying at the field. If you have any questions please ask any committee member and remember there are no stupid questions.

2018 CADMAC FIELD SAFETY RULES

  1. Club flying times are 10ap to 9pm (or dusk whichever is sooner) for IC powered models. There a reno time restrictions for electric and silent flight models.
  2. All flyers must observe field discipline and comply with the Air Navigation Orde, relevant BMFA safety codes as contained within the BMFA Member’s Handbook and Civil Aviation publication (CAP 658).
  3. No more tan 6 aircraft shall be airborne at any one time with a maximum of 4 IC models at any one time.
  4. All flyers must observe the established flight line and stand in the pilot box area whilst flying. All flyers must fly within the designated flying zone as shown on the field plan. Aircraft should never be flown over the pits area, pilot box, west of the club cabin or over the trees between the flying field and the A189. (Please note that there is a known area of interference for both 35MHz and 2.4GHz users associated with the power lines to the east of the flying field. This can be avoided by keeping your model inside the line of trees or above the height of the pylons. A full report on this is available).
  5. Access to the pits is to be via the access path which runs between the east and the west car parks. No one should cross over the runway unless retrieving a model and even then must seek clearance from any pilot flying at the time before doing so.
  6. All vehicles must be parked in the designated parking areas. Vehicles are left there at owner’s risk. When parking in the west car park the following rules have to be obeyed:-
    1. Priority has to be given to any vehicle already travelling on the road between the two car parks.
    2. A vehicle arriving at the flying area has to wait at the east car park until clearly waved on by another member who will have alerted any pilots flying at the time. It might be necessary to sound the car horn to attract attention but you must not move forward until waved on or a sole pilot has landed their model. To avoid misunderstanding the driver of any vehicle must NOT decide to use their (discretion) to save time.
    3. A vehicle leaving the west car park must wait at the new bridge until waved on by a member who will have alerted any pilots flying that a car is leaving. It might be necessary to sound the car horn to attract attention but you must not move forward until waved on or until a sole pilot has landed their model.
    4. Any pilot flying alone must be aware that a vehicle might arrive and wish to use the car park. As there will no other member to wave the vehicle on this pilot must on seeing the vehicle or hear the car horn land their model at the earliest possible moment to allow the vehicle to proceed.
  7. Members who are not flying should be alert for walkers, horse riders and other field users and warn flyers as necessary. This is particularly important where several members are flying at one time.
  8. When using the pits area all aircraft should be placed on the preparation tables provided. When no tables are available then the short cut grass areas around the pits can be used and all aircraft must face outwards from the pits and must be tethered before starting the engine. The running in of engines should only be done away from the pits area and members should be made aware of the running in position by the member carrying out the running-in.
  9. Pilots are responsible for safe use and control of their transmitters at all times.
  10. The frequency allocation system in use fore members using 35Mhz frequency is the peg on board system. Members using 2.4Ghz frequency are not required to use the peg on board system.
35Mhz frequency users must have a peg board in their possession when at the flying field. The first member at the flying field is to establish frequency control by setting out their pegboard before proceeding to fly.
A pilot must ensure that they are operating on the correct frequency as selected before switching on and the appropriate pennant should be displayed on their transmitter.
Frequency numbers must be called out to the other pilots before the transmitter in question is switched on.
All transmitter aerials must remain retracted unless the model is being flown. The flight is defined as being from when the aircraft is released to when the engine is stopped or the model restrained.
  11. Due consideration must be given at all times to trainee or novice pilots during a flight. In the event that the pleasure or concentration of a pilot is affected by the flying style of another pilot, precedence will be given to the pilot who was airborne first. Intimidating flying of any sort is not permitted and can be dangerous. Please fly with due care and consideration for fellow members.
  12. The following pilot competence and achievement levels are required when flying the below mode types at the flying field:-
Sub 1kg aircraft *  Club solo flight certificate
     1kg to 7kg  BMFA ‘A’ Certificate
7kg to 20kg**  BMFA ‘B’ Certificate and use of a spotter for all flights
Gas turbine aircraft **  BMFA ‘B’ Certificate and use of a spotter for all flights
    • *PArk flyers, pusher type wings etc but NOT fast flying EDF models or similar, these will be considered by two committee members before permission can be granted. Requirements may be similar to those for the BMFA ‘A’ Certificate.
    • **Models 7kg to 20kg and gas turbine powered models must be suitable for the site. These models will be reviewed by the committee prior to flying.
    • Models weighing more than 20kg are not permitted to fly at the site.
    • Members and visitors who do not have the BMFA ‘A’ certificate may only fly when closely supervised by another member who does have an ‘A’ Certificate.
  13. Mobile phones should not be used in the pits area or on the flight line.
  14. Junior members (under 18) must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
Junior members under the age of 14 years must not start engines.
Junior member under the age of 14 years must not fly a model aircraft unless supervised by a responsible adult and has been authorised to do so by the club committee.
  15. Members intending to fly models over 7kg in weight or any First Person View (FPV) model must inform Newcastle Air traffic Control at Newcastle International Airport just prior to flying. This should be done by ringing 01912148130 or 01912143244 or 01912148131 and informing them that you intend to commence flying a model over 7kg at the CADMAC Flying Field located as follows: (Position 55.05`.17″ N 01.33`.48″ W). At the end of the flying session one of the above numbers is to be contacted again to advise the Air traffic Control that the flying has ceased.
The maximum height at which the above models can be flown is 400ft above ground level. A pilot flying a model over 7kg must have a spotter by their side who can alert the pilot of any other persons in the flying area ie: walkers, horse riders, cylists vehicles, etc.
A pilot flying an FPV model must comply with the rules in Addendum 1 which is attached.
  16. VEHICULAR ACCESS TO THE SITE
    1. The speed limit on the site is 10mph
    2. Cars to stop and give way to all users on the site (pedestrians, horse riders etc).
    3. Access to the site is by the North Moor Farm gate off the A192 only.
    4. Vehicles to be driven on the track only between the North Moor Farm gate and the designated parking area close to the flying field.
    5. The access gate must be locked immediately once a member’s car has passed through.
    6. Club members are not to leave the gate open for each other or allow none club members through the gate.
